#TeamHaringey6 welcomed the founder and CEO of Global Boxing Management (GBM) to the college to talk to Business, Sport and ICT learners about professional sport and the world of sports business and media. Izzy Asif; former professional heavyweight boxer and now the first British Asian boxing promotor in the UK spoke inspirationally to our learners about his own journey in sport and business, including details on his challenges, successes and future ambitions. Our learners were able to gather insight about the world of professional sports, both as an athlete and as an entrepreneur.
GBM and Izzy were hosting a large boxing event that evening at York Hall, the spiritual home of boxing. Izzy and GBM were generous enough to provide our learners and staff with 20 free ringside tickets for this international event which was being covered live by TalkSPORT; the world’s biggest sports radio station. Our learners had a fantastic time during the evening and some were lucky enough to rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in combat sports!
Daniel Searle, Director of Sport & Enterprise, commented:
‘Izzy is an excellent example of why character attributes such as resilience, problem solving and perseverance are crucial to success in multiple disciplines. Our learners are privileged to spend genuine and meaningful time with a key player in professional sports business. We can’t wait to have him back and thank him, and GBM Sports for their generosity.’
Level 2 Sport learner, Darius Manta, commented:
‘I would like to say that Izzy is a very inspirational man, he explained his backstory very well which taught me a lot, particularly about hard work and resilience. He teaches us the power of believing in yourself and the importance of discipline. He also invited me to his boxing event which was amazing. As a boxer myself, I learned a lot by watching these fighters and I also met superstars such as Connor Benn and Michael Venom Page.’
