Have you ever thought about what keeps our society in order? How we are protected against crime, and how we are entitled to certain rights?

If you are interested in the work of the Uniformed Protective Services and Police Service, The Fire and Rescue Service and the armed forces such as the British Army and the Royal Navy, you will enjoy studying Public Services. However, that’s not all! You will study various interesting topics; law, crime, media, war and conflict, fitness, leadership, teamwork also fitness testing, bleep test, push and pull test, sprint test and many more to see if you could pass the fitness tests needed to join the Uniformed Protective Service

What makes Public Services at #H6 different?

• It is predominantly assignment based.
• There are many trips and events, such as a residential trip to an adventure centre.
• There are work experience opportunities.
• You will get to attend a Crown Court and watch real cases

How will I be assessed?

After the delivery of each unit of the course, you will be issued with an assignment, which covers a pass, merit and distinction criteria.

BTEC Level 1
Assessments are carried out through assignments and coursework.

BTEC Level 2 & 3
Assessments are carried out through assignments, coursework and two externally marked exams.

Entry requirements

BTEC Level 1 A few GCSE grades 2 or below. However, you will be required to have an appropriate level of English.
BTEC Level 2 Either - Three or more GCSE grades 3 or above. Or - Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject.
BTEC Level 3 Either - Four GCSE grades 9-4, including a minimum grade 5 in English or Maths
Or - Level 2 Diploma at Merit or Distinction and a minimum GCSE grade 5 in English or Maths

Our Tutors

Teachers in Uniformed Protective Services have a range knowledge around UK Law, recruitment in the public services, sociology and psychology, as well as experience within the outdoor and adventurous activities. Our teachers within Uniformed Protective Services have up to over ten years of experience within education delivering over a wide of qualifications in courses such BTEC Uniformed Protective Services, BTEC Public Services Level 1 to Level 5, BTEC Law and a range of Social Science subjects.

Our students

Students who study Uniformed Protective services at Haringey Sixth Form are consistently being challenged where they have demonstrated resilience and determination, whilst completing their studies they have gained various experiences in employment, enrichment such as the Met Police, London Fire Brigade and the Royal Navy , student council and volunteering. Some of our students join Haringey 6 with basic credentials and successfully gain their qualifications, progress onto higher education and employment.

Your Future

Our students at Haringey 6 will receive a diverse and engaging curriculum where they will develop a deeper understanding of who and what the uniformed protective services are, studying a range of topics including Citizenship and Diversity, Teamwork leadership and communication in the uniformed protective services, Physical preparation, health and wellbeing and Police Powers and the law. On completion of the course, students will achieve a BTEC Uniformed Protective Services qualification which prepares them for a higher national or undergraduate degree programme in Law, Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, and Professional Policing, as well as join a force of their choice.
