#TeamHaringey6 have had some amazing things on this week...

It started with our Winter Open Morning on Saturday; we had over 170 applicants booked so we knew to prepare for a busy day.

We started with a presentation from our CEO and Principal and tours by our amazing Student Leadership Academy Ambassadors and then some amazing displays in the atrium area from our Heads and Assistant heads of schools who were also in attendance to support our prospective learners showing them why we are #MoreThanACollege

Open morning Dec 24

Emily Evans, Course Leader for BA Illustration & Animation at London Metropolitan University visited our Art & Design students and covered BA Illustration & Animation and BA Graphic design courses at the university. She also looked at student’s portfolios and provided feedback and guidance. The students enjoyed the session and were able to ask Emily questions about the courses as well as the expectations and entry requirements.

The Learning for Life students came up for Science club. This week the students looked through Leaf litter to identify invertebrates using a key. A big thank you to Gulay, Jacine and Tayo who helped out. And my Year 13 A level Biologists who gave up their lunchtime to help (Alexis, Dimitri, Grace, Layla and Joyce).

A2 Biology Students Inspire Learning for Life students with Lunchtime Science Club

In a heart-warming display of mentorship and community spirit, Pradeep and Anjna, with the A2 Biology students have launched a Science Club aimed at engaging Learning for Life students in the wonders of science. Every week during their lunchtime, they dedicate their time to teaching and sharing knowledge with their peers, fostering a love for learning in an inclusive and supportive environment.

The initiative focuses on making science accessible and enjoyable for the Learning for Life students. From hands-on experiments to interactive demonstrations, the sessions are tailored to encourage curiosity and participation, creating a positive impact on both groups of students.

Learning beyond the curriculum

The Science Club is not just about teaching; it's about building relationships and breaking down barriers. The team has designed creative lessons- by adapting their approach to the needs of the Learning for Life students, they ensure that everyone can actively participate and enjoy the process.

A Culture of Support and Empathy

The program has also provided the A2 students with valuable skills, including leadership, patience, and adaptability. For the Learning for Life students, the club is a chance to engage with science in a way that’s tailored to their learning styles, boosting their confidence and interest in the subject.

A Vision for the Future

The success of the Science Club has sparked discussions about expanding the program to include other subjects and year groups. The hope is that this initiative will inspire a culture of mentorship across the school, where students from different backgrounds and abilities come together to learn from and support each other.

As the Science Club continues to grow, it stands as a shining example of how education can go beyond textbooks, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose among students.

Thank you, Pardeep and Anjna, for starting something amazing!
