Level 3
APPLY HEREThis course provides an opportunity for individuals who are interested in art and design to explore, develop and test their creativity within a structure that will provide a sound base of skills and knowledge. It will also enhance self-confidence and reveal the potential. This course will allow you to cover the fundamentals of art and design such as drawing, painting, mix media, 3D making skills, fine art, textiles/fashion and graphics/ illustration.
What will I study?
- There is an emphasis placed on specialist areas such
- as drawing, painting, 3D sculpture and design, print and photography.
- Themes and concepts are investigated by gathering a body of research through observational drawing, photography and looking back at artists and genres from the past.
- Inspirational pieces taken from the best contemporary practitioners.

How will I be assessed?
At all levels, a range of learning methods and assessments are used including practical and theoretical assignments. You will cover a number of projects throughout the academic year that will each contribute to your final grade.
Units are both externally and internally assessed, and you will be expected to keep a portfolio.
Entry requirements
UAL Level 1 | A few GCSE grades 3-1. |
UAL Level 2 | Either - Three or more GCSE grades 3 or below. Or - Level 1 diploma in a relevant subject. You will also need a portfolio |
UAL Level 3 | Either - Four or more GCSE grades 9-4, including a minimum grade 5 in English or Maths. Or - Level 2 Diploma at Merit or Distinction and a minimum GCSE grade 5 in English or Maths. |
UAL Level 4 | This is a progression route for learners who have completed either A-Levels, a Level 3 Diploma or an Extended Diploma in an Art & Design or related subject. |
Progression routes
Previous Level 3 art students have gone onto degree level courses to study a variety of pathways such as art therapy, interior/architecture, illustration, fashion and textiles, design, marketing and merchandising.
Creative careers have a diverse scope to take you all over the world into a number of industry sectors, for example theatre and film, special effects make-up, education, social work, sports and branding.
