Psychology is a science of the mind and behaviours. This course will enable you to develop a deep understanding of the reasons why people behave the way they do, through exploring genetic and environmental reasons.
What will I study?
- Research methods – understanding the methods psychologists use and putting them into practice with your own research project.
- The 5 different psychological approaches to explaining behaviour.
- The behaviour of those with mental illness and convicted criminals.
What makes Psychology at #H6 different?
- You attend workshops with criminals who have been rehabilitated.
- You visit The Freud Museum to look at the life and works of a key psychologist.
- You attend research field trips to investigate human behaviour.
- You listen to talks from experts within Mental Health and Probation services.
How will I be assessed?
100% written examination.
Entry requirements
Five or more GCSE grades 9-5, including a minimum grade 6 in Maths and a minimum grade 6 in an English, Humanities or Social Science subject.
Our Tutors
The psychology course is delivered by staff who have passion, enthusiasm, and years of experience in understanding human behaviour, mental health, child development and criminal psychology. The lead psychology teacher has been working in the department for 8 years and has developed and grown the course.
Our students
Our students are dedicated and driven young people who have a keen interest in applying key psychological concepts to pivotal psychological research that has been conducted over the last 100 years. Students progress on to a variety of courses in higher education and are able to use their knowledge to understand how and why people may behave in certain ways in a range of different areas.
Your Future
Students in Psychology will receive expert knowledge and experience from the course and teachers who are passionate and enthusiastic about the subjects they teach. Students will be fully supported both in and out of the classroom with engaging lessons and rigorous exam practice. Progression routes
A considerable number of students who choose A-Level Psychology do so with the intention of entering into a career in psychology. However, it can lead to exciting careers in the many other sectors, for example education and social work.
For those who wish to pursue a career in psychology, the opportunities are widespread in a number of different areas including clinical psychology, occupational psychology and forensic psychology.
