Sociology is the study of society and of its impact on people and their behaviour. Sociologists are also interested in how this can differ between groups on the basis of their social characteristics e.g. gender, ethnicity social class or age.

What will I study?

• The role of the sociologist in understanding and researching society.
• The causes of and explanations for criminal and deviant behaviour.

How will I be assessed?

This course is 100% exam based.

Entry requirements

Five or more GCSE grades 9-5 including a minimum grade 5 in Maths and a minimum grade 6 in English and a Humanities or Social Science related subject.

Progression routes

A few students who choose A-Level Sociology do so with the intention of entering into a career in Sociology. However, it can lead to exciting careers in the many sectors including law enforcement, teaching, politics, journalism and the mass media. Sociologists are also found in social work, advertising and marketing, the probation service and prisons
