As the sun sets on another incredible year, the #H6 community takes a moment to reflect on the unforgettable experiences, outstanding achievements, and life-changing opportunities that have made this year one to remember. From international placements and employer engagement to inclusive learning experiences, enrichment activities, and our first-ever Sports Day, our students have embraced every opportunity to learn, grow and succeed.

At #H6, we are committed to providing an education that extends far beyond the classroom. Our ambitious curriculum, enriched by meaningful employer partnerships, higher education links, and personal development opportunities, equips students with the knowledge, skills, confidence and resilience they need to thrive in their future careers and communities.

Broadening Horizons Through Global Opportunities

The year began with students once again taking part in international placements through the Turing Scheme and Challenges Abroad programme. Students travelled to Tanzania, Poland, Cyprus and Malta, where they gained invaluable work experience, developed their independence, immersed themselves in new cultures, and enhanced their employability skills.

These experiences have significantly broadened students' cultural awareness, confidence and aspirations, helping them develop the global outlook and cultural capital that employers and universities increasingly value.

Bringing Learning to Life

Our Level 2 and Level 3 Year 1 Criminology, Law and Psychology (CLP) students enjoyed an exciting programme of employer and university engagement during their Work Experience Week. Activities included:

  • Mock trials in the courtrooms at the University of Hertfordshire, alongside a campus tour and taster lecture.
  • A Criminology, Law and Psychology Taster Day at Middlesex University.
  • Dedicated CLP Careers Pathway sessions.
  • Employability workshops delivered by London Metropolitan University.
  • A guest lecture in Psychology from a Middlesex University lecturer.
  • Inspirational talks from former CLP and Law students, sharing their journeys into higher education and employment.

These experiences enabled students to connect classroom learning with real-world careers, raising aspirations while developing critical thinking, communication skills and confidence.

Supporting Every Learner to Succeed

Our Learning for Life SEND students continued to demonstrate that ambition has no limits.

Students visited Whittington Hospital to explore Supported Internship opportunities, meeting professionals across a range of specialist departments and hearing from a former Riverside student now successfully employed at the hospital. The visit inspired students to think positively about their own futures and reinforced the importance of setting high aspirations.

Students also completed their first work experience placement at the Selby Centre Food Bank, where they undertook a three-week placement supporting their local community. Through a variety of workplace roles, students developed practical employability skills, teamwork, confidence and independence while making a meaningful contribution to others.

These opportunities reflect our commitment to ensuring every learner receives personalised support and meaningful experiences that prepare them for adulthood, employment and independent living.

Developing Enterprise, Confidence and Leadership

Our Aspire 2 Enterprise students demonstrated creativity, teamwork and entrepreneurial spirit through their student-designed apron project.

Thanks to the incredible support of staff and students, the project has already raised £110, enabling students to purchase new PE equipment. Every stage of the project—from design and marketing to budgeting and sales—provided authentic learning experiences that developed enterprise skills, financial awareness and confidence.

Projects like Aspire 2 empower students to become innovative thinkers, effective communicators and responsible contributors to their community.

Connecting Students with Industry

As part of their workplace experience, our Level 1 Health and Social Care students visited Somerset Gardens Health Care Centre, where they met Practice Nurses, Student Pharmacists, Nurse Associates and members of the IT team.

Students gained valuable insight into the diverse careers available within healthcare while learning about the professional skills, resilience and commitment required in each role.

One particularly memorable moment came when student Kelson asked the student pharmacists:

"When work became difficult and you wanted to give up, what kept you motivated?"

His thoughtful question reflected the curiosity, maturity and genuine passion our students bring to their learning. Moments like these demonstrate the positive learning culture that continues to flourish across #H6.

Celebrating Commitment and Excellent Attendance

Positive attitudes towards learning are central to student success.

To recognise the dedication of students achieving over 90% attendance, we rewarded them with a well-deserved trip to Thorpe Park. The visit celebrated the commitment, resilience and consistency shown throughout the year while reinforcing the importance of attendance in achieving personal and academic success.

Building Healthy, Active Communities

We ended the year on a high with our first-ever #H6 Sports Day, bringing together students and staff in a fantastic celebration of teamwork, determination and community spirit.

Students competed in a wide range of events including:

  • 100m, 200m and 800m races
  • Relay races
  • Sack Race
  • Egg and Spoon Race
  • Three-Legged Race
  • Space Hopper Race

The day was filled with laughter, encouragement and healthy competition, creating lasting memories while promoting wellbeing, participation and positive relationships across the college community.

Come in and enrol with us: Thursday 20th August from 9.30am - 4pm and open after Monday to Friday from 9.30am - 4pm complete an application form online, have an interview then enrol with us!
