Our #TeamHaringey6 Level 1 Health and Social Care students went to the Bridge of Hope Food Bank in Tottenham to learn more about the services provided by the foodbank and to volunteer for a short period as part of their assignment, where they had to learn more about Health and Social Care services. At the food bank the students were actively engaged in all aspect of the services provided by the foodbank. They interacted well with the service users, sorted packed and distributed food, some of them served food to vulnerable groups of people.

This gave them the opportunity learnt more about the background of some of these individuals. They also learnt more about the history, funding and future plans for this small, but essential food bank.

It was good to see the students being so proactive, helpful and responsive to all the service users who came to the food bank. They represented the college in a very positive and respectful manner, which helped to form strong links with an important community organisation. It also helped the students to develop their confidence and overall sense of achievement. The students were able to take the experience gained from their visit to the food bank to complete their HSC12 assignment. It was an experience that they valued and will use in other aspects of their life.

Special thanks to Elena and Shanroy for accompanying the students on this visit.
