#TeamHaringey are so happy and #H6Proud to announce that our Chudi Dioramma - Haringey Sixth Form College Hawks basketball player and A-Level in Business, Law and Psychology student has been signed by Sacramento State Hornets college basketball team - this basketball team represents California State University, Sacramento in Sacramento, California.

As a student Chudi has been a great asset to the college on and off the court since he joined in 2021. On the court he has won numerous awards such as U17 Player of the Year, League MVP, All-Conference First Team honours as well as being selected for the Hoopsfix All-Star Classic game (for the top ranked players in the country) whilst averaging over 20 point and 20 rebounds per game in his seasons with Haringey 6th Form College.

Off the court, he is a hard-working student who is respectful, well-mannered and gets involved in extracurricular activities including volunteering at the local community Soup Kitchen and Food Banks. As well as achieving good grades, last year he also won the College Spelling Bee.

#CoachAntony explains what it is like coaching Chudi:

Coaching Chudi is a pleasure, every day we work hard with morning practices before College starts, and skill sessions in the evening sessions. It has been great to see how his consistency has helped him develop into the player he is today. With a player as unique as Chudi, we have been working on his all-round skill set so that wherever he moved onto next, he’d be able to do anything required of him. At 6’10, not only can he score and rebound but he is also a defensive presence and can make plays for his teammates too.

#CoachAntony on Chudi's success:

It’s amazing to see him achieve this scholarship, as I know this has been his goal since he joined #H6 in 2021. I knew he was capable of playing college basketball in USA, but it is never easy to be awarded a scholarship. You need to be elite as it involves a lot of hard work and sacrifice just to be seen by coaches across the pond. I cannot wait to follow his career in the NCAA next season and I am extremely proud to be a part of a college who has helped numerous players go on to play on scholarship. Chudi is now our sixth student athlete to do so.

Something like this is always special and is one of the reasons why I got into coaching, to help players achieve their goals and to help teach them what is required to be successful in life as well as in basketball. Winning games and titles are great but achieving something like this, for me, is the real win. This is life changing for the student. Using basketball as a tool to earn a free college education, to set themselves up for their future. This is what I want from everyone who attends our college team, not just for them to win but for them to actually go on and have success in whatever they decide to do next.’

Some of Chudi’s teachers share their thoughts…

Katie Ronan - Psychology teacher on Chudi:

He is a good team player in the class room - very jovial and gets other class mates active and prepared for the lesson whether it’s by encouraging them with his sense humour or motivating them with pep talks which he gained from his coaches from basketball training.

Anthony Johnson - Business teacher on Chudi:

A bright student with lots of promise and talent. Chudi is full of life and an integral member of the Year 2 A level business group. He is quite knowledgeable on a range of subjects and has a good sense of humour.

Annie Walcott - tutor on Chudi:

A bright, funny and very respectful student. He works hard and the relationship between home and college is seamless. He deserves every success.

Chudi also added:

‘I’d like to thank my family, Ryan Martin, Damien and my coaches at Hawks for all the support and for shaping me into who I am today. I also want to thank my teammates here at Haringey Sixth Form College for pushing me every day. #StingersUp!’

Russ Lawrence, CEO at Haringey Sixth Form College said “We at Haringey Sixth Form College believe in the ethos Aiming for excellence in Everything we do and what has been achieved by Chudi epitomises this with the support of our amazing teaching and coaching staff.

Wishing Chudi nothing but success and great things the world is your oyster so use it to the best of your ability as you deserve greatness!”
