Engaging local employers
We want to make sure that the education we provide you with is as meaningful and relevant as possible. One of the ways in which we do that is by working alongside businesses and the local community to create opportunities for you to broaden your experience and help prepare you for adult and working life.
Every year, we continue to expand the range of partnerships and activities that we offer. Here are some examples of what you can expect:
- Five of our Humanities and Social Sciences students are undertaking one-week internships with leading law firm Allen and Overy. A number of our A Level students will be working with the legal team at Royal Bank of Scotland during their internships this year.
- In Science, our Year 1 Level 3 students have enjoyed a week’s work experience at organisations such as the North Middlesex and Whittington Hospitals and the Biochemistry Department at London Metropolitan University. Our Year 2 BTEC Level 3 sports students have had experience working in local leisure centres and gyms, and our BTEC Level 2 students collaborated with fellow students in Media to work on the Sky Sport initiative ‘Inspire Boxing’.
- After spending two weeks on work experience with local employers, a number of our Business students have been accepted onto apprenticeships. Three students also graduated from the Career Academies programmes this year after completing internships with major City businesses including Lloyds Bank and BP.
- Our students in Art and Design have hosted visits from fashion designers Oswald Boateng and Vivienne Westwood, and two of our students have gone on to study at Central Saint Martins. Creative and Performing Arts and Media students have also enjoyed visits from a BBC broadcaster and music video director, who provided first-hand knowledge of what it’s like to work in these sectors. Through collaboration with Theatre in Education, theatre students have even put on performances in four local schools.
